Connect to a database


If a host and a database are not registered yet or you have launched SQL Manager for InterBase/Firebird for the first time and you want to connect to a database then you should do the following:

  1. Launch the Register Database wizard by selecting the Database | btnRegisterDB Register Database... main menu item.
  2. On the first step choose RadioButton Database is located on a new host item.
  3. On the second step set connection parameters for the new database.
  4. On the third step set options of a newly registered database: Database name, Database alias and Charset. Click Test Connection to check availability of the database at the moment. Then set common and log options for the database on the General and Logs tabs correspondingly.
  5. The registered database is now displayed in the DB Explorer. To connect to the database double-click its alias or  select the btnConnectToDB Connect to Database item of the database context menu.

 

To connect to a new database on a registered host perform the following operations:

  1. Launch the Register Database wizard by selecting the Database | btnRegisterDB Register Database... main menu item.
  2. On the first step choose RadioButton Database is located on the host already registered in SQL Manager.
  3. On the second step set the necessary parameters to connect to the already registered server: User name, Password and Role.

Then follow points 4 and 5 from the instruction above.
