Online Documentation for SQL Manager for Oracle
Naming options
The Naming tab provides tools for editing naming options.
Methods
This group allows you to select the naming methods, such as TNSNAMES or Oracle Names, that will be used for client name requests.
To select a method, you need to move it from the Available list to the Selected list. Use the buttons or drag-and-drop operations to move the methods from one list to another.
Preferred Servers
This tab is used to specify the protocols, addresses, and the order of addresses that will be used for a client's name requests.
Use the context menu to insert/append/delete an address. You can also test the address using the corresponding item of the context menu or the Navigation bar.
Oracle Names
Wait duration before disconnection from Names server
Limits the amounts of time the Oracle Names server will wait for the connection from a client to complete.
Default domain
Indicates the domain from which the client most often requests names. When this parameter is set, the default domain name will be automatically appended to any unqualified service name.
Resolution persistence
Wait duration before connection retry
Determines how long a client will wait for a response from an Oracle Names server before reiterating the request to the next server in the preferred servers list.
Number of retries per each Names server
Specifies the number of times the client should try each server in the list of preferred servers before allowing the operation to fail.
Performance
Number of connections to a Names server
Determines how many connections an Oracle Names client may have open at one time.
Initial number of preallocated messages
Determines the initial number of messages allocated in the client's message pool which are used for forwarded message requests.
DCE
DCE cell name
Specifies the Distributed Computing Environment (DCE) cell name (prefix) to use for name lookup.
NIS
NIS map file name
Type in or use the button to specify the file to be used to map Network Information Service (NIS) attributes to a NIS mapname.
NIS is a Sun Microsystems' Yellow Pages (yp) client/server protocol for distributing system configuration data such as user and host names between computers on a network.
