MySQL Launches ‘MySQL Network’ for Corporate Enterprises

Boston, LinuxWorld Conference & Expo — MySQL AB, developer of the world’s most popular open source database, today launched a new way for corporate enterprises to acquire, deploy and support MySQL for their business-critical applications. The new ‘MySQL Network’ offering is specifically designed for large IT departments looking to leverage the cost and performance benefits of MySQL – while addressing key business requirements for implementing open source software.

MySQL Network is a straight-forward and cost-effective solution that provides:

  • Enterprise-level production support and Knowledge Base
  • Automated updates and alerts
  • Flexible open source licensing
  • IP indemnification
  • Certified, production-ready software

“MySQL Network saves organizations time and reduces risk by streamlining the deployment of applications using MySQL,” said Marten Mickos, CEO of MySQL AB. “Through the widespread support of the open source community, our database has become one of the fastest and most reliable in the industry -- with more than six million active installations worldwide. With this maturation, our company has also grown, and we are now able to support the advanced requirements of enterprise customers and high-volume Web sites via MySQL Network.”

Several companies, including PriceGrabber.com, Blue Frog Mobile, Soft Express and Silver State Schools Credit Union, have already subscribed to MySQL Network to receive proactive support services and certified software from the best source available, the developers of MySQL.

“MySQL Network leverages the cost and performance benefits of MySQL while also addressing key business requirements such as production-level support, vendor accountability and certified software,” said Tamim Mourad, founder and chief product officer of PriceGrabber.com. “PriceGrabber.com has been using MySQL in business-critical systems since 1999, and MySQL Network will ensure that our developer productivity is maximized.”

MySQL Network:
Everything Enterprises Need to Successfully Deploy Production MySQL Applications

MySQL Network is available as an annual subscription in four different tiers (Basic, Gold, Silver, Platinum), tailored to organizations’ differing sizes and needs. The high-end MySQL Network Platinum-level service contains these premium components:

  • Premier Enterprise-class Production Support – Addressing the concerns of many enterprise IT organizations using open source technology, MySQL provides production-level support directly from the developers of MySQL software. Platinum subscribers receive unlimited 24x7 telephone and Web access to MySQL’s experienced support engineering team, including guaranteed emergency response times of less than 30 minutes for the most severe issues.
  • NEW Certified Software – Each release of the new MySQL Pro Certified database server is rigorously tested and authorized as reliable and ready for business-critical production use. This software has been reviewed by the open source developer community, as well as MySQL’s own quality-assurance suites and commercial and open source testing tools. In addition, it will be inspected and verified by both Coverity and Klocwork Software, two leading source-code analysis companies that will test MySQL for crash-causing defects, performance degradation and security vulnerabilities.
MySQL Network certified software is licensed through the open source GPL, giving subscribers a broad and flexible range of database development and deployment options.
  • NEW Protection through Indemnification – As the developer and owner of all its own technology, MySQL AB is uniquely positioned to offer its customers the strongest legal protection in the open source industry. Qualifying subscribers can opt to add comprehensive indemnification and damage coverage for intellectual property issues, including patent and copyright infringement.
  • NEW MySQL Knowledge Base – a centralized library of hundreds of technical articles written by MySQL’s own developers and support staff. This searchable collection provides quick resolution to many issues, as well as troubleshooting, performance tips and “best practices”.
  • NEW MySQL Update Advisor – an automated message system that will alert customers of new and relevant MySQL certified software for their environment. The Update Advisor can also assist developers and DBAs with the installation and upgrade process. Alerts are available via email, pager, or SMS message, and the complete list of updates and alerts can also be viewed using a standard Web browser.
  • NEW Technical Alert Advisor – The Technical Alert system notifies customers about issues related to their specific computing environment – before they may adversely affect their applications. Also completely customizable, these bulletins cover such issues as operating system security vulnerabilities, new features, performance enhancements and important Knowledge Base articles.

Pricing & Availability

MySQL Network is available now for 11 major platforms, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Sun Solaris, and HP-UX. It is priced on an annual subscription model, ranging from US $595 to $4,995 per database server (EUR 495 to 3,995).
