Setting connection parameters

At the first step you need to specify the connection settings.

Register Host Wizard - Setting connection parameters

In the Server section you need to define connection parameters.

Choose Host Name from the drop-down list or type it in manually at the corresponding field.

Choose Protocol from the appropriate drop-down list.

Specify the connection port or service name in the Port/service field. By default it is "gds_db" for InterBase and port 3050 for Firebird.

Type User name and Password in the corresponding field.

You can also define the user role in SQL role field.

Pressing the Get Server Preferences allows program automatically do the following actions:

  • get server version (when done the version will be shown at the title of the section);
  • define security database if possible (a few servers do not allow to perform such an operation);
  • detect client library according to server version (also shows the version at the corresponding section title) from the list of folders:

        - in the folder specified at the Client Library field;

        - in the server home folder and subfolders (server must be local and home folder must be specified);

        - in the root folder of SQL Manager 2008 for InterBase/Firebird;

        - in the folders associated with the environment variable Path;

        - in \System32 and \Windows;

From all successful results the program chooses the one that matches best to the server version.

  • set authentication type.

Choose the security database from Security DB drop-down list or locate it with the Browse setting connection parameters - browse to choose the database from open dialog.

In Client section you can specify the client settings.

In the Client library field define gds32.dll or fbclient.dll either by locating with Browse setting connection parameters - browse button or selecting from the drop-down list which contains the list of the libraries used before. Automatic search of the library is implemented on pressing the Get Server Preferences button.

Then you need to specify the Authentication type to be used for the connection.

  • Normal (traditional IB/FB authentication with security database)
  • Win32 NTLM authentication (only FB 2.1 or above)
  • Mixed

Check the Use Secure Shell (SSH) tunneling CheckBox to protect individual and corporate data by encrypting the traffic.

When you define the Embedded server in the Host Name field some fields become inactive and all you need is to specify the Client libraries which contain all necessary connection settings. When the host name is specified its version appears at the title of the server section.

Register Host Wizard - Setting connection parameters - embedded

You need to define the client library for the Embedded server at the Client library field. Use the Browse setting connection parameters - browse button or the corresponding drop-down list to select one. When the client library is selected the title of the client section shows its version.

Specify the folder containing extra files for the Embedded server at the Embedded server root field.

Check the Publish root into Path environment and server configuration file CheckBox flag to add the path from the Embedded server root field into environment variable and server configuration file.
